What would be a good name for the West Malling, Offham and Kings Hill Parish Magazine? Even in this ‘electronic age’, the Parish magazine still provides a vital link and source of information for the local community. It is very hard to come up with a snappy name which is both clear and short. So we thought we should ask. If you go to the West Malling website, you will see a list of some ideas and how many votes for each one. Anyone can vote and the more people who join in the better. You can download the current edition to see if it gives you any ideas. Or … Continue reading
One of the best services of the year is the joint Midnight service at Mereworth church (with lots of people from not only Mereworth but also KingsHill and West Peckham). It started at 11:30pm and includes Holy Communion. We also get to sing all those extra verses on the Carols which you are only supposed to sing on Christmas. It is a wonderful way to welcome in Christmas morning. How did you welcome Christmas?

So we were lucky enough to have several local people who are … Continue reading
In 1918, at 11.00am on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month – the First World War came to an end. Most of the war was fought in dug-out trenches across Belgium and France. Perhaps as many as 9 million soldiers died, there were about 27 million were wounded – many permanently disabled. Then at 11.00am, the fighting stopped everywhere, six hours after the Armistice was signed in a railway carriage in Compiègne, northern France. The Joint remembrance service for Mereworth and West Peckham will take place at St Lawrence’s Church, Mereworth, on Sunday 11 November 2012 starting at 10am, and finishing with the 2 minutes … Continue reading
If you are interested in learning more about the history of our beautiful church, there is a very good article on Wikipedia – the online Enclyopedia. Click here for the article. This allows you to add any details which have not been added. For instance, we spotted that there was no link to the church website. So you could read up on the history but not actually find the times of the services next Sunday! So we have added a link. Is there anything else missing we should add?
