In 1918, at 11.00am on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month – the First World War came to an end. Most of the war was fought in dug-out trenches across Belgium and France. Perhaps as many as 9 million soldiers died, there were about 27 million were wounded – many permanently disabled. Then at 11.00am, the fighting stopped everywhere, six hours after the Armistice was signed in a railway carriage in Compiègne, northern France. I do a lot of reading as a priest, some of it is religious, but a lot of it has to do with matters of social or political interest. Today I read this, from LICC (London Institute of Contemporary Christianity www.licc.org.uk). Is this the kind of fast I have chosen, only a day for people to humble themselves? New Bible study classes on Book of Colossians – what can the writings of Paul can teach us about modern life?
Have you ever wondered if the Bible can really tell you anything useful? A new bible study course will be running in September/October for anyone is the area of Kings Hill, Mereworth and West Peckham. It will consist of SEVEN sessions looking at the Book of Colossians. The group meets at 7:30 on thursday nights from September 13th. The other sessions will be on 20th, 27th September and 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th October. We will be setting up the new website over the next few weeks. There will be separate sections for the churches in West Peckham and Mereworth along with a section for Kings Hill and lots of shared material. If you are online, we want to be able to find and be kept updated. But the church is about more than buildings and services so it will also have items on the community, related events and what is going on. We would also welcome anything you would like to contribute.
