As part of the church of England, your three local churches are part of a local region (or diocese). In our case we are part of Rochester. A popular misconception is that this is all paid for by the government – if only… We contribute towards the costs of running the church in a system called church share and this is really nicely explained in a video. We are very pleased and excited that we can now reveal the new Priest who will be moving into KingsHill and working hard to build the church there. He will be based at KingsHill and joins the team of Pat Dickin (based in Mereworth) and David Green (from West Malling). Following interviews on 13/14 November, the interview panel decided that the suitable candidate was not among those interviewed. Following a week of prayer and reflection, the conversation on what the next steps might be will resume in the week commencing 24 November. We are grateful for all those who took time out of work in order to represent their communities and the Cluster on the interview panel: Stephen Betts (Offham and West Malling), Paul Spensley (West Peckham & Mereworth), Andrew Grannick and Karen Webber (Kings Hill). With the announcement of the decision on new school at Kings Hill, the church has put out this statement: “The Rochester Diocesan Board of Education is disappointed not to have been chosen by the Department of Education as the preferred sponsor for a new primary academy in Kings Hill, West Malling. The Diocese believes that it put forward a credible proposal to run a new primary academy which would have served local families and provided much need facilities on behalf of the local community. What would be a good name for the West Malling, Offham and Kings Hill Parish Magazine? Even in this ‘electronic age’, the Parish magazine still provides a vital link and source of information for the local community. It is very hard to come up with a snappy name which is both clear and short. So we thought we should ask. Today is Ascension Day, the day on which the church celebrates the return of Jesus to Heaven and the end of his ministry on Earth. After his death on the cross on Good Friday, he rose from the dead on Easter Sunday and then appeared to many of his followers before finally returning to heaven. To celebrate this special day there will be a joint service at 19.30 St Mary’s, West Malling The 5 local Church of England Congregations will come together to celebrate the Ascension of Our Lord in a joint service. The Vote closed and after those who chose to had their say, a new name has been chosen for the Church of England on Kings Hill: St Gabriel’s The angel who brought the Good News, let’s pray that this marks a new season for the christian community on Kings Hill. A few formalities need to be completed (the Bishop’s official permission needs to be sort), but it looks like we will be known as St Gabriel’s on Kings Hill. Good News?
